Best Veneers in New York City
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers, also known as laminates, are the ultimate makeover in cosmetic dentistry.
If you want the most consistent and optimal procedure for getting your teeth to look their very best, porcelain veneers are the way to go. Veneers will give you an absolutely glamorous smile. It’s a technique which provides the most dramatic and permanent result. Dr. Yampolsky’s office take pride in delivering the best veneers in New York City.
The key to great veneers is a combination of a great dentist and a great Oral Designer. On order for veneers to look great – they need to look natural. Too often veneers are made too white or too uniform and appear unnatural. Dr. Yampolsky in partnership with the famous Oral Designer Jason Kim produce amazing results time after time.
Veneers are created by adhering a micro-thin porcelain shell to your teeth, resulting in the perfect shade, contour, and size for your best smile. The wafer-thin porcelain veneers are highly resistant to permanent staining from coffee, tea, or even cigarette smoking. Because a veneer is bonded to a tooth, it results in an aesthetically pleasing naturalness unsurpassed by other teeth restoration options.
In some situations porcelain veneers can be an excellent alternative to crowns. Veneers provide a more conservative approach to changing your teeth’s color, size, or shape. People who have permanently stained or discolored teeth, spaces between their teeth, stained fillings, broken or chipped teeth, or misaligned teeth can benefit from the procedure. Some individuals who have minor misalignments of their teeth may choose veneers instead of traditional metal braces and wires.
What happens during Veneer Placement?
Patients need three appointments for the entire procedure: diagnosis and treatment planning, preparation, and bonding. These can all be done in our office in the heart of New York City.
Diagnosis and Treatment Planning
During this visit Dr. Yamposlky will analyze your existing smile, facial features. She will also interview you to determine your personal desires and expectations, and take diagnostic photographs and models. Computerized imagining is also utilized to create a new smile design.
At this visit it is very important that you carefully and thoroughly explain to Dr. Yampolsky what you are hoping to achieve. She will take a lot of time to interview you and evaluate your teeth and your facial structure.
The process starts with the final result in mind. Dr. Yampolsky will examine the alignment and shape of your teeth, the proportion of each tooth and position of your teeth with each other, the length of your teeth, and the texture and color of your teeth.
She will also not just analyze your teeth, but also the shape of your face; your lip line; the lip fullness of your lips and your gum line; your age, hair and skin color; and even your personality type. It will be critical that you take an active role in the design of your new smile, spend time in the decision-making and planning of your smile, and understand the possibilities and the corrective limitations of the procedure. The end goal will be that you have a smile that harmonizes with your facial features.
Have more than one consultation, if necessary, to feel comfortable that Dr. Yamposlky understands your objectives.
Preparation of teeth
This appointment will take from one to two hours. To prepare the teeth for the porcelain veneers, the teeth are lightly buffed to allow for the small added thickness of the veneer. Usually, about a half a millimeter of the tooth is removed. At this appointment, a mold is taken of the teeth, which is sent to the laboratory for the fabrication of the veneers. Patients receive temporary veneers while the permanent ones are fabricated at the laboratory. This can take about one to two weeks. The collaborative effort of the dentist and ceramist result in custom designed veneers ideal for your flawless smile. We work with a very talented dental ceramist – who is known for going extra mile. Before creating the laminate veneers he studies the photographs of the patient’s face and teeth. When working on a very complex case he invites the patient to his lab for costume shading of laminate veneers.
Bonding of Veneers
This appointment will take about one or two hours. First, the dentist places the veneers with water or glycerin on the teeth to check their fit and get a sense of the shade or color. While the veneers are resting on your teeth, view the esthetic results, and pay particular attention to the color. At this point, the color of the veneers can still be adjusted with the shade of the cement to be used. The color cannot be altered after veneers are cemented. To apply the veneer, the tooth is cleansed with specific chemicals to achieve a bond. Once special cement is sandwiched between the veneer and tooth, a visible light beam initiates the release of a catalyst to harden the cement. The only side effect to porcelain veneers is a beautiful smile.
Maintenance of Veneers
For about a week or two, you will go through a period of adjustment as you get used to your “new” teeth that have been changed in size and shape. Brush and floss daily. After one or two weeks, you’ll return for a follow-up appointment.
Expectations from Veneers
Porcelain veneers are reasonable facsimiles of natural teeth, not perfect replacements. It’s not uncommon to see slight variations in the color of porcelain veneers upon close inspection, as this occurs even in natural teeth. Nevertheless, this procedure can greatly enhance your smile, and can heighten inner satisfaction and self-esteem.
